Very nostalgic and a rewarding read! The reader finds a warm sentimentalism as he reads this short piece on the author's childhood hero. I also thought it meaningful and a point to consider, that the childhood hero was a man with a limp. It speaks of qualities greater than strength and bravado, which are so often equated with heroism. There was a certain measure of physical frailty around the hero, and yet even after years apart, he remained that same hero when you met him again. A touching piece. Heart-warming and real. Keep it up!

Bravo sir!
It is refreshing and enlightening to read the perspective of American society from a man such as yourself. You did an excellent job in meticulously analyzing and scrutinizing every angle of the United States and its people. I appreciated your candid honesty, as well as the fact that you were not simply out to criticize and defame as many seem bent on these days. I only wish that Americans who travel abroad could be as socially aware and objective. Giving a 5 star rating, there is nothing I would suggest for improvement. Rather, my only advice would be to continue writing this sort of thing! Write on my friend!

There is nothing more tedious than reading poorly written free-verse and nothing more rewarding than beautifully written free-verse. I must say this piece ascribes to the latter as it flowed wonderfully. You, as the poet, succeed in tapping a deep reservoir of feeling in the reader--one that elicits an unexplainable sadness coupled with a barely suppressed joy and optimism. Your meticulous work in line breaks and stanza breaks do well in establishing a good flow. I have read many, many poems in my life and writing good free-verse is a rare gift that, frankly, many do not have and I still dream of developing further. Certainly one of the better pieces I have read on WDC thus far!

Very nicely done! Though sectioned into stanzas, this poem was obviously free verse to a degree, but kudos on maintaining a good rhythm as well as rhyme scheme! The use of poignant imagery such as "little smiles upon my arms" did an excellent job at conveying the mixed emotions that go hand-in-hand with an issue such as this. My favorite line is the ending, "The future?...we'll see." I honestly don't have anything to critique that I can see. Write on!
