Good job! You did wonderfully to explain the origins of the Church and how it relates to the Jewish synagogue.
It makes alot of sense that Paul would have referenced the synagogue when setting up a church. I don't think he was even realizing that he was setting up anything new, just that new believers needed a means of gathering and fellowshipping. The Jewish standard would be employed quite naturally.
As Gentiles, unfamiliar with the Jewish synagogue, it is easy to think that the Church developed itself, somehow. Obviously, it really didn't.
I can't imagine why someone would give you a 2-star rating for this. This is very informative and readable. I learned more from this writing religious folks of Jesus' day than I knew before.
You also provoke the reader to think about the situations of our day...who are the Pharisees? Am I one? How do I keep from becoming one?
You have such a wonderful way of sharing your memories and love for Linda. You loved her so much that you paid attention to her, probably more than you realized at the time. I really like reading your work. Thank you.
You've done a great job explaining epileptic seizures and why we shouldn't be afraid of someone having one. I've not seen in in a person, but we did own Rusty, an epileptic dog. Not much you can do but wait it out.
In our case, the vet told us to put a couple of shots of whiskey in a large glass of water. Add plenty of sugar to make it palatable and get Rusty to drink it.
Only once in his life did he do that willingly, and that was when we had a second dog and he thought the other dog would "steal" it. LOL
Often, we'd try to get him outside, onto our deck, as quickly as we could. Rusty was a golden retriever of about 80 pounds. If we got him on a blanket or something we could drag him out to the deck, where it didn't matter so much if he lost control of his bladder. Also, because he wouldn't take his "highball" willingly, it was usually a matter of getting it into his cheek pouch with a turkey baster.
Now that you have this word picture, can you imagine what the neighbors thought of us..especially in the odd hours of the evening?? In our jammies, by porchlight, with a turkey baster and hauling our dog out on a blankie?
That dog was the only creature in our home that drank beverages that we had to purchase at the state store!
Rusty passed at the age of 10. Our Becca was 6 months old. One Sunday morning as we were getting ready for church the neighbor's Yorkshire terrier got loose and was running around our yard and garage. He surprised Rusty as he made an exit. We got Rusty into the house, the Yorkie returned to his owner and I ran upstairs to change my muddied clothes. In the two minutes it took to do that, my husband hadn't left Rusty's side. Apparently he died on our landing...dh guesses he went into a seizure and had a heart attack.
Excellent! I really like it. Neil reminds me of something between the professor in Back to the Future and Eugene in the Adventures in Odyssey radio series.
You've got a wonderful imagination and a great ability to put it all down on paper.
That's a terrific allegory! I love how you use a cup and saucer to illustrate how life in search of one's partner, without seeking the Lord Jesus Christ, will leave you chipped and broken.
It also demonstrates that once you go to the Lord, He will put things together for your good. Oftentimes we neglect Him until we are battered and bruised and broken. Yet He waits for us to come running to Him, and He will reward us.
Kenzie, I absolutely love this piece. In many respects it echoes my opinions of rating and reviewing, though I haven't given it the thought to express in words as you have.
For instance, I've read a couple of "horror" stories, admittedly by accident, that really hooked me in the beginning. Until the piece was concluded, I didn't realize that it was something I don't like! I rated those pieces 5's because they were so well written and engaging...especially so because I personally dislike the genre. In my opinion, that's some good writing!
Still, I admitted such to the authors and said that I would be unlikely to raid their portfolios further.
Thank you for this piece. There are many of us that believe as you do. We must remember that Jesus is with us, and for those of us who believe, He is our Inspiration. He is also the Good Shepherd. He never FORCED PEOPLE TO ACCEPT HIM but rather taught them in gentleness and humility. It was to hypocritical Pharisees that he preached "Woe to you", because they wouldn't soften enough even to listen. And He, being God, knew that they wouldn't.
We don't know any such thing about anyone. SHOUTING at them isn't going to help them to love our Jesus...it won't even help them to love us. Spreading sunshine, as you call it, quite possibly will.
Oh, that's neat. I love how you describe the joys of having a beloved dog.
I had a dog that shadowed me, though my husband named him "Traveler". Trav was my companion, as he was a stray and I fed him. When I thought he was lost, lo and behold, he'd be right behind me, practically attached to my heels. I learned quickly that I had to look over my shoulder before I called him, because he probably was right there!
I think you've written a great piece. I need some education here though, because I see that there is a great pattern, if you will, that must be adhered to, but I'm not familiar with it.
I realize that this is probably the first poem of this style that I've read and so shouldn't judge shortly, but I'm not sure I care for the style...too much repetition of what has come before. Again, I think you did well within the boundaries of the style. I'm just not sure I care for the style itself.
I was very impressed that you stopped the love scene so abruptly. I was almost disappointed with the twist at the end. I wanted her to have found the love of her life, but then, I think you chose a much better ending than I would have.
