A fantastic idea, and a story that left me with plenty of questions, good questions; the type of questions that make me want to read more. The story concept reminded me of George RR Martin's early works.
My only gripe is that the story is mostly written in the present tense. I find that this style can be off-putting for some readers, and for a writer, it can be hard to keep consistent. After the initial prologue, the first few paragraphs are written in the past tense, but as the dialogue scene ends, the story switches mostly to the present tense. This was a little confusing.
An entertaining story with a hint of classic George RR Martin; I look forward to reading more.
