I enjoyed reading this. It is efficient, every sentence contributes to the story, and it ended with a good punch line. I live in the south and I can vouch for this is as an authentic story. I can't really offer any tips for improvement beyond some grammar nitpicking, I wouldn't use a hyphen for six months or thirty days.
