Nice job. I really enjoyed this poem. Good use of rhyme and meter. I can almost hear it being sung by a guitar slinging old geezer.

This is beautiful writing. Thank you for these priceless images of a winter day. Although it is a short piece it touches an eternal moment, a timeless instant of life being lived so fully and so suddenly interrupted. Brilliant use of the silence to wrap us up in it. You really delivered.

That about sums up the situation. Your introduction does a great job of bringing the frustration and confusion to light, and your discussion of the probable causes seems to be sound thinking. Although you didn't say it in so many words, there is no escaping that we all have to tighten our belts for a while. But I personally resent being ripped off by big oil, and I think our government has a responsibility as a government, to serve its people by setting standards and regulations in place to control price-gouging by cartels. The truth is our government is failing us. That is a piece that shouldn't be left out of the discussion. I believe in "good" government, and we don't seem to have it. There is only one way I know of to change that, and the only way I know is to vote for change. Personally, I think we are victims of a system that rewards career politicians and allows big business to dictate to the government through the lobbies and the screwed up electoral process we have. Until we get rid of career politicians and change the election process, we are doomed to be victimized by whatever big fish happens to be swimming in our little pond at the moment.

I was really impressed with this story. It's very real life, just the way our mind's wander and create all sorts of crazy scenarios. I was completely taken in. Thanks for a good read.

This story did a supreme job of bringing the 1950's back to life. The details were great. I was very impressed by your ability to take it step by step through his experience at the gas station and then each step after that, bringing his growing realization to life. I felt like I was experiencing it with him. It would be nice to think that Alzheimer's patients actually do live in a past that makes them happier than the present. The horror of old age, the indignity of it and its finality all com through clearly in this story. A great read. Thank you.
