This folder contains facts and information about hurricanes as well as some personal experiences I have had while living on the Texas Gulf Coast.
I vaguely remember Carla in 1961. I was in first grade, and she was my first hurricane. I can still hear the front door howling as the winds entered through the door jamb. I got a free parakeet from Woolco's Department Store because their roof got blown in, and the pet department flew or walked away from the store. I found a turtle in my back yard about a week later. My house was about three long blocks from the store.
Having lived through hurricanes, and taught an English as a Second Language science course, my explanations may be easier to comprehend than those presented in a more professionally scientific lingo. I'd appreciate any constructive feedback you can give me about the article--suggestions, areas to delete, etc, by e-mail to patrice@writing.com.
