An Excerpt from my novel, An Empty Headstone
Somewhat stunned, they both stumbled to their feet. Freezing cold sheets of rain poured down on them and around them, but was unnoticed by James whose skin was on fire. His white breath billowed from his mouth and disappeared in the lines of water between him and Brody. The static noise that the millions of rains drops made as they each hit a car, the pavement or a rooftop seemed to fill James head as he blinked against the water in his eyes, trying to focus on the image that was only about six feet away.
Maybe Brody was closer because in three short steps he was in front of James clutching his soaked jacketless shoulders. Before James could realize what he was about to do, he had one hand under his arm and another under the inside of his thigh, picked him up and dropped him to the cracked side walk. In protest, James lungs refused to take in air for a moment as the freezing drops pelted his face. But, ignoring the pain and the possibility of a broken bone, James was back on his feet charging at Brody once again.
Brody was twice James’ size, although James had the height advantage, but they were both fighters. James, however, was fueled by too many emotions to think of and without any consideration to damage he was causing his own body he felt like he had superhuman strength.
