A fantasy poem about the imagination of a child and how a circle completes itself in life.
When I was a little girl
I held the wind in my hands it seemed
There in Grandpa’s garden
among the flowers and the weeds
I tilted back my head
and closed my eyes so tight
I asked for Gods assistance
and whirled the wind with all my might
It was slow and warm
and I could feel it pass right through
And when I changed direction
the strength of its power grew

I imagined a thousand soldiers
watching from upon the hill
They were slowly gathering
upon the earth that stayed so still
Beyond the meadow a great fleet of ships
harbored at the shore
And every single eye watched
as I commanded the gale they came in for
There was a great and majestic sunlight
that helped me carry on
Like the fingertips of heaven
reaching for the patch of earth I adorned
A celestial orchestra played
while angels sang a duet with the wind
And when I twirled about the grass
the scene changed for me again

Now I saw my mothers face
so young, she was like me
And daddy sat alone so sad
and bent over on his knees
My sister was playing with her dolls
So content as mother she was
And my brother was passing time
In the comfort of the law
My children frolicked in sweet clover
And I held each one as they passed through
I kissed each little cheek and set of lips
Like some queen mother surely would do
The first was dark and olive skinned
Her eyes so black as night
She smiled up and said hello
So perfect in my sight
The next smiled shyly, so handsome
And asked me to set him straight
And I bent to lift him up
And he made me wait and wait
The last wore sunlight in her hair
And blue diamonds were her eyes
She reminded me of rainbows
And I couldn’t say just why
There were so many others
And I watched them as they walked
They called out to me to hold them
And for awhile we stood and talked

Then I saw myself standing still
On a crystal blue sheet of glass
And my hair was wound in roses
As a procession ushered past
My garb was white with lilies
And my heart as driven snow
And I couldn’t help but notice
Not anyone did I know
I watched one so eloquent and unspoken
Waiting for me to reach
To take my hand and keep it
Till time stood still I think
And I slowly came upon the place
Made for me by this one
And I fell so wholly pleased
At the way in which it was done

Above my head flew the raven
Leading doves two by two
And when they circled round the sky
They had written, “I love you”
At the end of the formation
A lone eagle took to flight
And he led us all to plethora
Where the moon had hid the night
Hooked within his talons
Wrapped four fold in a golden sling
He held the truth of promise
And to me he dropped a golden ring

I moved the direction of the force
To the west and east and then
I saw an old woman
Who I knew as friend
She was sitting in a field
With daisies at her feet
And ten million butterflies
Flew around the sky it seemed
She was knitting a blanket
Made of memories and time
She used her eyes like needles
To help make them all still rhyme
“I’ve been waiting here for sometime”
And then she said hello
She leaned in to whisper to me
As the wind became soft and low

“My dear you will have many
That will cause you great defeat
And in moments when you wander
In heavy shoes upon your feet
Never let your imagination fail you
Or deny the love you seek
Your hands will comfort many
And have it back when you are weak
Never forget that you saw me
And all those minds that you let in
And in those quiet moments
I am that whisper on the wind”
