Angels listened, but the call never came |
Angels Listened Angels listened as Mary sang For the babe to whom she gave birth. The One who left His heavenly home To live with mankind on this earth. Angels listened as Jesus played With His friends when He was a child. He tumbled and wrestled like all the rest, But His manner was meek and mild. Angels listened as crowds hurrahed During Jesus' Triumphant Ride, Knowing that soon by Peter, His friend, Three times He would be denied. Angels listened as soldiers nailed Our Lord to Calvarys' Tree. They waited for Him to give the call To come and set Him free. Angels listened, but the call never came; He stayed to save Man from death. "Father, forgive them!" is what He said, With heavy and labored breath. Angels listened, then covered their ears, As He cried out from The Tree, "My God! My God! My Father in Heaven! Why do you turn from Me?" Angels listened as Mary cried For the son to whom she gave birth. The One who left His heavenly home To die for mankind on this earth. Angels listened as thunder rolled, And our Lord walked out from the tomb. He became the Hope men need To keep them from hellish doom. |
