It was a pleasant, spring morning. The sky wore a shiny blue dress. A little magpie whistled sweetly. Clean, white curtains covered the windows. The round clock on the wall ticked slowly.

A little, adorable face could be seen turning around in bed. Her curly, thick hair spread behind the pink pillow. A cute teddy bear was enveloped in her tiny arms.

All of a sudden, a soft music waved into her ears, washing away the lat bit of sleep from her eyes. It was the tune of the ‘Happy Birthday’ song.

“Happy birthday, Rania.” Tina walked beside her younger sister’s bedside. She had a small bag in her hands.
Rania was waiting for Tina. She spread her arms and received a warm hug immediately.

Rania’s brown eyes shone as she unwrapped the present. An exquisite decoration piece came out of the little box. It was a crystal horse. It had a horn, and deep eyes. Surprisingly, it had a pair of wings too.

That was a treasure to the six-year-old girl. Unlike the other girls of her age, Rania liked to collect decoration pieces. Her pale face was polished with pleasure. The gift looked exactly like the winged horses who resided in fairy tales. She sat quietly for some minutes, admiring her unique gift.

“Oh, Tina! This is the best piece of my collection!” Excitement showered from Rania’s voice.
“Glad you like it, sis.” Tina gave her sister a little kiss.

The verandah beside Tina’s bedroom was filled with marigold plants. The teenage girl adored those pretty flowers. She took care of the plants regularly. As a result, the little plants bore wonderful flowers. Red, orange and yellow- these nice colors soothed Tina’s eyes when she got tired of studies. Rania and Tina shared the same room.

The crystal horse had found a comfortable place on the bedside table. They kept it on a brightly painted block of glass.

One day, Tina picked a yellow marigold from one of her plants to decorate her hair. When she sat in front of the mirror, she did not see her own reflection. Instead, she saw a beautiful young lady, having four transparent wings:
“Tina, please help me. Keep that flower near your crystal horse.” The lady whispered.
Startled, Tina turned away from the mirror. She thought perhaps it was just her imagination. She tossed herself on her bed, leaving the flower near the horse’s feet.

Tina had a very important exam coming up. So, she decided to study as much as possible.
She was immersed in her books. Suddenly, she heard a soft, rhythmic sound, coming from the bedside table.

When she turned to the table, Tina could not believe her own eyes. The horse was moving its feet! Its four feet looked furry, like real horses! Half of the marigold was smashed.

The horse’s movement seemed as if it was trying to form something on the table. A mixture of fear, curiosity and amusement moved through Tina’s mind. She picked up a paper and put the horse on it.

After about fifteen minutes, the sound stopped. Tina pulled the paper out. When she held the paper up, the following letter appeared:

Dear Tina,
Please help me; I do not belong to this earth. I’m not a decoration piece. You have read about us in books. We live in Fairyland.
The reflection you saw a few hours back was my owner. She is the princess of Fairyland.
Every night we come down to earth, when children stay close to their mothers, listening to fairy tales.
We are forbidden to visit the earth during the day. We turn to crystal statues if we do so.
One day, I had a terrible urge to come here. I was not aware of the time. So, I turned into the crystal statue. I was put in the shop from where you bought me.
Collect one flower from each of your marigold plants, and blend them. Rub the mixture all over me. Help me break this crystal frame, please!

Tina hurried to the verandah. She collected the fresh flowers and smashed them with her hands. Slowly, she applied the juice all over the horse.

“Thank you!” The horse whispered.

Tina watched in awe as the horse spread its wonderful wings. It looked like a diamond in the dark blue sky. It seemed to tear away the darkness of the night with its shiny body. Its horn glittered in the moonlight. The beautiful, bright moon looked like a piece of gold behind the horse. Tina kept waving as the horse gradually disappeared.
