using a tree, sap, & sun as metaphors for an addict & his/her addiction experience
                                    Addiction
If I'm a tree,
it's the fatal sap that feeds, then kills me.
Death's a'  comin'  fast-- maybe slow.
Sap's a' risin'-- I feel the flow.

My glorious sun-- like a tree's leaves, I crave more.
It's always to die for.
A few minutes free- no pain.
Been so long I can't recall- what drove me this insane.

a bite--forbidden fruit- another-then just one more
killing mind, body and soul, closing life's door.
This soul blight-- the fruit of my choice-
is murdering my heart's voice.

Self-control--first my last bite,
promise...then I 'll make myself right.
last time--just one more....
then I'll prune that branch as never before.

Yeah--I know--I've said that before...
Hey--Hey-where is the door?...

Then...
Hope-- incarnate through the door walked in
And as leaves in Fall flee from their tree
Death, and its choking vines fell away from me
