Change

About a guy trying to get out of the shadows of his past

My previous past
Is one that is going to last
I’ve gotten breaks
But I still continued to make mistakes
I’ve been given a chance now to make a change
In my life to re-arrange
Things that I actually need
I’m ready to take control of my life; I’m ready to lead
I know I’ve screwed up and have let everyone down
To some I’ve even disgraced this town
I look back at my history
And everything continues to be a mystery
Can’t believe the people I’ve hurt and the things I did
I have no excuses, even if I was a stupid kid
If for some reason I’m forgiven for what I have done
I’m going to take that rare opportunity and run
Run with it and show them I’ve changed, I’m not the same guy
Not the one who used to cheat, hurt, and lie
I now have a clear mind and have everything planned
I’m going to be generous and lend a helping hand
No longer is anything fogging my vision
For now on I’m going to try my hardest to make the right decision
