The evolutionary necessity of desire

embrace the river as it flows
ten thousand years
are carried along
in its genetic memory

it crashes against history
and falls against earthworks
created contrived designed
to inhibit the flow

it roars in objection
and beats against the rocks

an irresistible primordial force
that resonates
with something
we don't understand

thrills us in ways
we do not comprehend

immersed
in a pool of cool water
desire begins to ripple

as a pebble
then a stone
then an avalanche of rock
enter the water

concentric circles
expanding
wave after wave pulsates
with the rhythm of our ancestors

and we become lost
in pre-Cambrian necessity
