For an eternal split second, she met his gaze and the beach, the whisper of the sea caressing the shore and the gentle chill that enveloped them vanished as one. He would remember the sensation for the rest of his life. Lost beyond her deep hazel eyes he experienced an elevated sense of awareness as though seeing the universe and every moment past, present and future simultaneously from an infinite distance, feeling as insignificant as one of the grains of sand under his feet. He suddenly became aware of the warmth of her hand resting on his own. Her gaze turned to the ring. When she looked back up her eyes were glistening.
"I can't" she whispered.
