Short thoughts about not letting go- how to lose that which you seek to possess.
Hungry, yet unwilling to let go

1.

"I don't need you" she insisted,
gripping the stem of her wine glass,
begging for another argument
to remind her
she is alive.

2.

"You are my world" he pled
as he built a glass case around her
to display his possessions,
but her world cannot survive
without oxygen.

3.

"Mine" cried the toddler
as he held his crackers tightly,
wrapped in celophane;
hungry, yet unwilling
to let go.

Letting Go

1.

She grasped the lapel of his coat
so tightly, she didn't notice
when he fell right through,
into the arms of someone else.

2.

I held your love tightly in my arms,
Afraid of letting go, losing you, losing me
Losing my reason for being here.
One day, I looked inside and you were gone.

3.

I don't need you she shouted
Gripping the stem of the wine glass,
Begging for another argument
To remind her she is alive.

4.

You are my world, you said
As you built a glass case around me
To display your possessions, but my world
Cannot survive without oxygen.

5.

Mine, the toddler cries
As he holds his crackers
Tightly, wrapped in cellophane;
Hungry, yet unwilling to let go.
