To the lights of my life |
| Scattered like jewels on black velvet Rubies and diamonds, emeralds and garnet You watch nonchalantly as the world goes by As lives are born, lived, and as they die Some discern their future in you For others, you’re everything that’s true To some, you’re divine art on night’s canvas Others find patterns in your randomness But to me you’re a friend so kind For you seem to read my mind You share every little secret of mine And you know when I blush or pine Twinkling, when you share my joy I often suspect a mischievous ploy But when I’m sad, I’m sure you know For you blink back tears of sorrow When I’ve fought and in anger I can see a frown in your glitter But then you wink it away in a trice And so I learn how to laugh at life Everyday, from dusk to dawn At times smiling, at others forlorn With me, through the darkest nights Adorning them with sparkling lights No matter where I am, or what I do I know that I’ll always find you Watching over me from far above With the twinkling eyes I love |
