Encounter with a bee entry for daily flash fiction 300 word max
Innocence

'Life is good," thought Emily abstractly.

She was sitting in her chair on the front lawn watching her dad. He was doing something that she just knew was very important.

Letting her gaze wobble slowly around she noticed all sorts of interesting things. There were big things and small things. There were all kinds of different shapes and colors. She drank it in.

"Goooolflthpthts" she said with a great deal of satisfaction. She followed that with a big drag from her bottle.

She heard it first. A buzzing sound flittered all around. Her head bobbled to the left and then to the right as she tried to locate the source.

Suddenly it was there, right in front of her eyes.

'Who are you?' she thought to the bumblebee that had just settled on the bridge of her nose.

'My name is Sandy. What is your name?' the bee asked back.

'My name is Emily and that is my dad and this is ear' she thought touching the side of her head.

'Wow, your sure know a lot. I just know how to buzz. When I grow up, I will know everything,' Sandy said optimistically.

'I will be like my dad when I go up.' Emily thought proudly. She tossed the bottle aside and reached out to hug her new friend.

Tom glanced over at Emily and did a double-take. His daughter had tossed aside her bottle and was now grabbing at the air in front of her. There was something strange about her face. Then he noticed that was staring at a bee on her nose and it was making her cross-eyed. Quickly, he dropped his paint brush and ran over to shoo the bee away.

Emily gurgled with happiness. She had made her first friend.

Time for a nap.
