I'll bet you didn't know a horse's nose smells like pretzels

HER MARE’S NOSE
July 28, 2008

Her nose is a pretzel,
my sister says,
soft as seals, but
yeasty as breads—
Straight from the oven,
smelling baked
and warm,
the nose of her mare
on a soft summer’s morn.
