For a friend. Are we the sum of our mistakes or are they only beacons on our way? |
Resilient Soul You are made of all the days you’ve been knocked down and found your way. You reach the surface, take a breath, ride the waves and tread for awhile. You pine for when you'll finally break the mold from which you thought you were made. But you, dear friend, are so much more than flesh and bone, or loss of love. There is no mold from which they made your spirit, your mind, your resilient soul. What they see, they cannot hold, for you have shed your mother’s mold. Go forth young woman, writer, friend, reach out for life; don’t hold it in. You're not the sum of your mistakes. You're not the problems thrown your way. They are but beacons to light the way as your life forms words you were born to create. SWPoet Below is the original version. Above is a newer version, very little changed except the appearance. Resilient Soul You are made of all the days you’ve been knocked down and found your way. You reach the surface, take a breath, tread the waves, stay still for a while. You yearn for the day you'll seek to break the mold from which you thought you were made. But you, dear friend, are so much more than flesh and bone, or loss and love. There is no mold from which they made your spirit, your mind, your resilient soul. What they see, they cannot hold, for you’ve already broken the mold. Go forth young mother, writer, friend. Reach out for life; don’t hold it in. You're not the sum of your mistakes. They are but beacons to light the way as your world forms words you were born to create. SWPoet 26 Lines |
