Mythology then and now |
(Sirens are mythical creatures of the Ancient Greek world. The three bird-women lived on a flowery island surrounded by rocks and cliffs. When they sung, their voices lured sailors to their island leading to shipwreck and the Sirens eating their bodies) Back then, we were Sirens. We were angels of the sea and devils to the seamen with Our perfect voices and Our feathered figures. Sailors would willingly let the sea take control of their sails until Their ships inevitably crashed into our jagged rocky shores. Our part was to merely collect Our fresh feast. Sailors knew we were there and would go to great measures to Steer clear of us, as some would clog their ears with wax to avoid Our sinful ways and Our Flowering fields. Today, I’m a Siren. I wander the streets and roam the diners always surrounded by workers who cannot hear My croaky voice because of My silenced sound. Workers obediently let their diaries take control of their lives until Their bodies inevitably work into a shallow pit of loneliness. My part is to talk for My suffering soul. Workers know I am here and go to great lengths to find me, as some Become ill from their constant connection to the world; they search for My helpful guidance and My silenced sound. |
