A child's perspective of Christmas morning.
Six in the morning,
I can’t believe I slept this late,
I’m sorry, dear Christmas presents,
that I made you wait.

As I dreamed of you
were you trying to call out to me?
Don’t worry, my precious friends,
I will set you free.

Yes! Mom gave the okay.
Presents, oh presents, I love you so!
Show me if you will what is under
each wrapping and bow.

My mind races with thoughts
of what each one of you will bring.
Will it be underwear or something
that makes my heart sing?

Fly, wrapping paper, fly!
You can torture me no more.
Ribbons and trash cover the room,
decorating the floor.

Ten minutes past six,
the delightful damage has been done.
Is it the gifts or the anticipation
that brings such fun?

Thank you, present friends,
for a wonderful Christmas day.
Now, excuse me if you will,
I can’t wait to play!
