Crossed Paths
The sounds of the world comingled together in a brilliant orchestra of excitement and mystery. Who was it that he was just about to rush? Who was it that he was about to clash with in a struggle for undeniable pre-eminence? The sound of his blood red cape fluttering in the wind, every single crunch his feet made as he pressed forward, the calm rhythmic pounding of his beating of his heart. To Will everything seemed to flow seamlessly together to form this peculiar peace he was feeling.
In seconds he reached his target and thrust his spear in the direction of their abdomen. To his astonishment, his opponent moved with an unnatural grace, out of the path of his weapon. Speed that was only comparable to that of his own. With this same speed, his opponent kicked him in the lower back, sending Will towards the cold hard ground. In a flash Will came back to his senses and transformed his unfortunate tumble into a role across the ground. This is going to be more fun than I thought.
Like a dance, the two combatants moved rhythmically as they fought to attack, block and counter-attack over and over. Will’s enemy was hard to miss as he wore white armour that was riddled with scratches from countless battles. The golden faceplate reflected Will’s reflection back at him so he was able to see himself in his dark red armour that was covered in various rune like inscriptions. –It’s probably best if you don’t waste time with this one-. And who exactly asked you about anything that I do. In the midst of arguing with his inner voice, Will didn’t pay attention to the fact that his opponent had completely left the ground and was set on a fixed course towards him with their right foot in front.
Metal connected with metal as the force of the blow knocked the wind out of him as well as knocking him clear off his feet. Will fell to the floor with a thud, pain lacing its way through his body. Before Will could clear his head, his opponent took the opportunity to kneel over him holding a knife to his neck. Where’d he get that? Will lied still, listening, listening to what? The crowd had become hushed when he landed hard against the ground; his heart beat had kept its controlled steady pace throughout the whole confrontation. He looked inside himself, searching for that trigger that would heighten his senses. There. He listened past his breathing, past his beating heart, until he found what he was looking for, the startlingly calm heart beat of the person kneeling directly over them. For a moment Will just stared at the faceplate with a curiosity he hadn’t been able to find in a long time. Why were they so calm.
Will listened intently to the heart beat, learning its tempo. –Now-. Will brought his knee up to his enemy’s stomach and launched him off of him. The knife flew wildly in the air spinning erratically. Will reached out and grabbed the knife and suddenly the two foes were back in the same situation again except this time Will was on top.
“What are you going to do now?” Will asked with a smirk spreading across his face.
“Exactly what you did,” a familiar female voice replied.
Shock and confusion were the emotions that now covered his face as he was trying to figure out who could be behind that reflective helmet. Not even a second passed after her reply before she started to do exactly what Will had done to get her off of him before.
Will flew over her and rolled to a stand. In the process of flying through the air he had lost his helmet and watched as the unknown fighter removed her own helmet. The two combatants were now face to face, both of them wide eyed, as they both now recognized who exactly they were fighting.
