Katie and Seth get some unexpected help from someone's race they hate.
~~~Author's Note~~~
I am sooo sorry about the delay - I had an unexpected soccer game, got the times wrong. Here it is, though. NOTE: Katie and her friends might not actually invade London in this chapter, so you might want to wait for Chapter 3 in this case. ~Kelly
~~Actual Story~~
"I hope they actually have a modern weapon outpost in London, these weapons suck but your bow is useful a little bit," Seth said cheerfully, nodding over to the rack of swords we had stored in the castle.
I didn't answer; I was too busy dipping each and every arrow I had - it was around seventy - into the barrel holding the potion Hayden had claimed to turn all they vampires it touched back into humans. Suddenly thirsty and not looking where I was reaching, I grabbed the orange juice that was supposed to make my blood over 475 degrees Celsius - the human doesn't feel it, that's the catch - and so pure that it was disgusting for vampires and drank the whole thing.
After pursing my lips in shame - Seth was supposed to have some, too the vial had straws in it, but I had chugged it - I teased, "Why, you want the machine gun? What will I get?"
Seth gave a mock gasp. "How'd you know? And no, I was thinking of you having, like, a sniper or something--" He was cut off by a small and quiet knock. We both looked at the wooden door in the stone wall.
Melanie was standing in the doorway. She made her way to us and sat on a haystack - we were in the stable. Melanie took a deep breath and blurted out, "You're really serious about this, aren't you? You're really going to try to liberate London?"
I groaned mentally. Ever since Melanie had been changed back into a human, she didn't remember anything at all of being a vampire. Not me . . . killing her, not her about to kill Seth or being the queen of the vampires that had been living in the castle. She thought we were all crazy about the vampire invasion, and accused Hayden of making the paper herself when Hayden showed her the newest version of the newspaper, the headlines a bold "LONDON GETS TAKEN OVER BY MYSTERIOUS FORCE THAT TOOK OUT HALF OF AMERICA".
Even Seth had been reluctant to admit Melanie was being a pessimist, with her not believing me or him.
"Yes, Melanie, we're going to try to free London. Once --" I said patiently to her.
"And if," Seth interjected.
"Yes, if we free London, we're going to supply it with modern technology and Hayden's masterpieces so they'll be better equipped if the vampires try to capture Lon-don again, this time with more force. I'm sure they'll be infuriated if they find out two petty humans freed London using a sword and bow and arrows."
Melanie shuffled her feet in embarrassment and muttered, "It won't be two."
Seth and I looked at each other in surprise. Melanie was going to help us? Melanie read my look correctly and opened her eyes wide. She knew as well as I did that she hated archery and wasn't strong enough to hold a sword.
"No, I won't help you, someone else is. With better knowledge of what you're up against."
"Hayden?" Seth guessed.
"No."
"Who, then, Melanie?" I asked impatiently. We didn't have time for verbal charades.
"Well . . . "she said sheepishly, looking at Seth. “You should have some of Hayden's anti-vampire drink first."
I immediately saw the hint in her voice, and so did Seth. "You told a vampire about up? Melanie, are you serious?" Seth and I commented in disbelief at the same time.
"He's nice," Melanie said, automatically on the defensive. "His name's Bryon."
I grabbed my quiver in a knee-jerk reaction. Suddenly I heard a scream outside, and I ran out of the stable, my weapons ready to shoot. What I saw made my blood chill.
"Drop her!" I ordered and fired - not really caring if they still had green or lavender potion still on it. The so-called "good" vampire had Hayden in his arms with her neck at an unnatural angle and her eyes closed. It hit him in the shoulder, but it was a regular arrow - it would neither change him nor kill him.
But it was made of a mix of metals, between iron, gold and tin ore that Hayden had made, so it was strong enough to pierce the skin and catch his attention. The vampire looked at me in disgust before abruptly letting Hayden drop to the ground.
Seth came out behind me and went to help Hayden, holding a vial the size of half-dollar filled with orange juice. I made my way to the vampire slowly, my trigger-happy finger trembling with the impatience of letting my arrow fly into the still heart of that parasite.
"Wait," the vampire said, and I shuddered for a heartbeat. His scarlet red eyes did freak me out. "I can help you. I don't believe in the decision of exterminating the human race, as they're our food. There are now a total of six vampires, but they're very powerful.
"One's name is Fiona. She can induce tornadoes, earthquakes and hurricanes. That is all. Catherine can deflect mental abilities. Tomas is gifted with making his ways come through. I can read everything you've ever felt, thought, and saw just by a ten second eye contact. My name is Bryon. Nicolas and Daniel are made with abnormal strength, even for vampires. I have come to help," Bryon said quietly, standing up. Hayden had now woken up with Seth's expert revival, and I could tell by her face that she didn't believe a word of it. Neither did I -- he easily could be a spy and had not surprisingly told Melanie that he would help, so I didn't lower my bow.
"Whatever, Katie, let's bring him with us. I wouldn't mind if we have to kill him in the end, anyway. Besides, his information's important. But don't lower your bow from the back of his head." Seth warned. I nodded solemnly.
I walked with Bryon leading the way, my bow never leaving his back, and Seth behind me into the setting sun.
~~~Other note: If any of you have some ideas for the story, please don't be afraid to tell me, I'd love to hear them, any endings would be cool too, but I already have what I think is a good one~~~
