Why, even that pretty after-noon invented neoteric time -

why
      even
            that
pretty
        after-noon
                        invented
                                    neoteric
                                                time

enough for the sign
    (it existed-
      they said.
      but i have
      yet to prove
      it.)
to have gotten bored and left
with the clever north wind nipping at
its heels.

enough for the color
      (an ugly tint,
      i insisted but
      no one seemed
      to care much
      about the color
      of one's back
      side.)
to stick itself to an innocent
slumberer

lay down to rest on that
pretty after-noon
