a poem on fantasy and imagination

Oh how I yearn so deep inside, to set my poor soul free.

So I might go and see at last, a sight so dear to me.

To release my soul from it’s chains, and then to let it fly.

To soar above the mundane earth, cavorting in the sky.

I would soar so high above, and laugh with joy and glee.

For I would know within my heart, the sight I wished to see.

And I would fly by day and night, with a heart that is so true.

With bated breath I would wait, for the spires of Xanadu.

I would be flying amidst them, to be moved at the sight.

Of crystal spires exploding, as they filtered the sunlight.

I would watch in awe, at all the colours soft and true.

Starting off in the red, then changing out to blue.

To see the sun shine down on them, like a beacon in the night.

They’d fire out their glory, to announce to all their might.

I would fly straight in the light, till it encompassed me.

For it would tell me softly, my friend at last your free.

And I shall walk once again, on those pristine hallowed halls.

To set my feet upon the path, to the liquid ice blue falls.

And go barefoot on purple grass, to climb the golden tree.

There to watch a yellow sun, sink into an emerald sea.

And so my friend, this I will say, as I fast approach my last.

I have found my inner peace, from the ghosts out of my past.

At long last I’ve reached my end, with a peace I give to you.

For I have seen those crystal spires, in the land called Xanadu
