A poem about losing HER, the ONE, the love of your life.
                                                                                                                I Guess I Was Dreaming
                                                                                                                by Brandon McClaskey

You were never scared of sickness. You knew she had the cure.
These days, the games are intense. The score; you’re not quite sure.
Words, however true, no longer work their magic
And everything has taken a turn for the tragic.
The relationship you’ve worked so hard to build
Seems to be worth nothing more than its status.
That look she used to give you is no longer there.
POOF… Vanished…
You remember when you used to be the tough of the tough.
Now you find yourself on your knees, eyes to the sky, saying, “Enough of enough.”
And you damn sure remember the fact that you used to be the man.
Now you’re broken. So feeble that you can barely stand.
Beautiful hopes for the future; you used to have the best of them.
Constantly abandoning each other; that was for the rest of them.
You never used to listen to others and weren’t about to start now.
So, why does life have you wondering, “Where is my heart now?”
You never once questioned whether the two of you would make it through it.
Then the flight arrives. She leaves. No goodbye. How could she do it?
She says, “Simple. I walked through the gate and got on the plane.”
Well, there it is. Everything is different. Nothing is the same.
When you say hello to love, remember to say goodbye to sane.
She calls it being sensitive. You call it her being The One.
Still, any man makes her cry, it’s, “Look into this gun!”
She used to rid you of them and has now become your biggest fear.
You’d rather run while there’s still hope inside her than stick around and watch it clear.
Then it’s no pain. No bruise.
True: No gain, but no blues.
Or should you stick around and remind her why she used to love being called Baby?
You hold onto that last thought because it seems like the best way to go. Maybe.
Maybe a beautiful life together WAS just a picture perfect painting
But you both used to be lovers of art.
At some point she became a lover of just wanting to be apart.
Moving on without her; damn, you’d rather be alone.
This boat is taking on water fast! Please turn it around and come home.
You wake up and smile. “Damn, I guess I was only dreaming.”
Reality sets in. Head hits pillow. “Damn, I guess I was only dreaming.”
