A Society of Broken Minds

If one were to have 'a shattered mind',
then what would be the fix?
Would there be some medicine,
perhaps a few quick licks?

If one's psyche was 'scrambled beyond repair',
if one's mind was 'on the brink',
what would be one's safe cure;
the pipe, the smoke, or the drink?

If one were to think beyond their pay,
if one were to question the Laws,
if one were to ponder beyond the norm,
would they feel Hell's jaws?

If one were to fight a losing fight,
if one refused to bow,
if one was shunned for showing gall,
would anyone raise a brow?

If one were to fall to the Animal's fangs,
if one were to die for a cause,
would anyone see them as anything more,
than a no-one who broke their laws?
