Time, Tick, Tock, Waiting
She hated waiting.
Patience had never been her strongest virtue.
Tick, tock.
The clock ticked off each second.
Slowly, so slowly.
Rapping her fingers impatiently on the table top, she watched the door with unwavering eyes.
Every time another customer entered the store, her heart would race with expectation.
Where was he?
Why was he late?
No.
He couldn't have forgotten.
They had been planning this for weeks.
Tick, tock, tick, tock.
The clock continued.
A minute had gone by since she last checked.
A single minute.
She began to come up with excuses for him.
Maybe there was traffic?
Maybe he had forgotten?
Maybe he had to work late?
None of them added up though.
He would have called had he known he was going to be late.
Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock.
Standing, she began to pace.
Other customers ignored her, only giving an odd glance at her way as they went around her.
Her eyes were glued to the door.
Worry began to set in.
Their relationship had been rocky lately.
Did he even want to see her?
Did he still care?
Maybe he wanted to be with someone else.
Another girl...
No.
He didn't.
He loved her.
Right...?
Of course he did.
He had promised, swore to her that she was his everything.
He needed her.
Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock.
The seconds ticked by with agonizing slowness.
Sitting once more, she began to think he wasn't going to show up.
She checked her phone.
No new messages.
No missed calls.
A tear slid down her cheek.
She hadn't seen him in days...
Wiping the following tears away angrily, she stood, grabbing her coat and bag in the process.
Pausing to collect herself, she wiped at her eyes and cheeks and pulled on her coat.
She probably looked like a crazy person.
It was just then that a pair of arms wrapped around her, she gasped.
A bunch of black roses was being held in one of the hands that held her tightly.
"Hey baby, sorry I'm late. I stopped to get you flowers... I've missed you..."
Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick tock, tick, tock, tick, tock.
