This is a poem of reflection on what is of true value as we greet a new year. |
| A second passes and the cheers begin, A progressive roar as the Earth spins. The shout of humanity rises above The cry of our fragile yearning for love. The sun and planets shining bright Do look down with wonder on this night. For they continue on their noble course, Imbued with a purpose by an unseen force, Amazed at the din one second can bring, When an eon for them is but a tiny thing. Please tell me, oh tell me truthfully, When the hubbub subsides in the early dawn, When the reveler finally betrays a yawn, Do I have the courage to look in the mirror To face my true self without any fear? The unfeigned heart’s whisper from afar Echoes in the canyons of the stars. More clearly than the midnight clamor, The still cry of the soul does heaven enamor. For hearty acclaim greets the drop of the ball, But a child’s wondrous eyes do angels enthrall. |
