Poem for adults and children; humor side of a spider and flies.
Peg Leg Joe

As the story goes, it was a bright spring day.
And out popped Spider Joe.
Seven good legs, Joe, has he.
But one leg is missing at the knee.

If you ask Spider Joe, what happened to his leg.
He will squint his one-patched eye and say,
"I had a mishap long, long, ago.
It's all because I tried to grab too many flies, you know?"

Old Spider Joe is a hero of sorts.
He lives in the church at the corner of Window and Wall.
The music is sweet, the children very nice.
During Spring-Summer, oh how the flies do entice.

Joe keeps the corner of Window and Wall.
Clean from flies, debris and all.
So the music Master said, "Let him be!
That spider is a fly catcher and a hero to me."

So Joe tried to climb higher and higher.
One day he slipped, fell into a groove.
Got his leg stuck, had to sacrifice it, to move.
Now Joe is wearing a leg with a peg, and a patch to match;
And there wasn't a good fly in the batch.
