A World without Chocolate

Global warming,
destruction of the rainforest,
deforestation,
all have consequences
all effect
the desires of the flesh,
the appetites of the body,
and the cravings of the soul.

Who would think
that the Theobroma cacao tree
and its divine seed
could fall victim
to the depravity
of human created environmental disaster?

A world without chocolate,
where trees die
for lack of water
or because the climate
in which they evolved
becomes too hot
or too cold
for them to survive.

Is it worth surviving
on a planet
without the nut
of the sacred
Theobroma cacao tree?

To wake up
without chocolate
is the end of the world!
