A loved one is lost in a dream and in life.

Our mouths are quiet.

Lips drawn into lines

Eyelids grow heavy,

The loosing of binds.

Our bodies are still,

Once beacons of night.

Now we are fading,

Dimming like the stars

Near the break of light.

Darkness has taken

Its grasp over us,

Lending its dimness,

Pale moonlight, and dust.

Quickly descending,

We pick ourselves up,

Gather our senses,

And brush off the rust.

Something is not right,

Man the defenses.

Deep from the shadows

An image contorts,

Moaning like metal,

Bending in odd sorts.

A feral smile

Stretched across its face,

The figure wavers

A moment in place.

An arm reaches out.

It lashes for me.

But you step in front,

Not thinking to flee.

Bullet sounds rebound

Off brick and off stone.

Red blooms from your chest

we are left alone,

you're laying on stone.

I beg you “Hold on”,

But you are slipping,

Fading like the stars.

I lay next to you

Staring at the sky.

Somewhere a siren’s

Cry echoes my heart.

Hands pressed palm to palm,

Tears mix with the rain.

Just push past the pain.

Our mouths are quiet.

Lips drawn into lines

Eyelids grow heavy,

The loosing of binds.

Our bodies are still,

Once beacons of night.

Now we are fading,

Dimming like the stars

Near the break of light.

I wake up to find

I’m laying in bed,

Curled up on the spot

Where you once rest your head.
