When the plumber arrives, the problem hides until he almost departs.
The plumber scratched his chin and looked down at the still waters of the toilet.
“Well sir, I don’t see anything. No air coming through the water, everything in the back looks fine. I’m not sure what the trouble is,”
“I swear to you. Almost every ten minutes the thing flushes,”
“I recommend you just shut the valve off. I believe you, but I don’t see anything wrong. Just call us back when it starts happening again,”
“Do you mind waiting here, for just a second?”
“Sure, no problem boss,”

“Honey, I don’t know what to tell this guy. He’s about to leave and nothing is fixed. This toilet is going to keep us up all night. Tell him, he probably thinks I’m crazy!”
“Fine, fine, I’ll go talk to him,”

“. . . and so every night we have to keep the door shut because it just sounds like it is flushing,”
“Like I was telling him before, when you are getting ready for bed just turn off the valve. This will prevent the water flow. And if it keeps happening, just give us a call,” the Plumber stepped out of the bathroom and was about to proceed down the steps when the sound of water filling the tank sounded.
“See?! There it is! I told you I wasn’t crazy,”
The three huddled around the toilet as if it was a newborn baby’s coo, staring in awe as the water rippled.
I can’t believe that just happened,”
“Oh yeah, see now here’s your problem. Your flapper is just no good, it is just too worn. I’ll step out to my truck and get another one,”
The plumber stepped out of the bathroom and went downstairs.
“Didn’t he say everything was fine?”
