The Role of Saint Bernard

The soldiers, policemen, and fire fighters serving our community deserve praise - a poem.

We read the questions, scan the puzzles,
And try to guess the right price –
For these game shows proffer the American dream
To millions of hungry, compassionate, and caring viewers. 

To win a huge boatload of dollars or a bevy of prizes
Such as cars, expensive getaways, and home furnishings
Seems like the ultimate task; 
And for a brief time, these contestants
Own an iconic and glamorous stage
Amid the attentive and hopeful gaze of TV watchers
Throughout this great and glorious land. 

But much like the famous Saint Bernards of the Swiss Alps
Who comes to the rescue of mountain climbers
In their most desperate hour of need,
Men and women do their heroic duties
To serve the highest possible cause
Known to humanity,
Protecting innocent folks from harm
And making all involved happier, healthier,
And more thankful
Than they ever thought possible.
