Rugged

A limerick based on the varying ways we pronounce certain English words

I was informed in a review that a word, tugged, that I thought of as having one syllable really had two, presumably sounding more like the first word in "rugged terrain". Whether you agree with that or not, it led me to write the following limerick which plays on the different ways one might pronounce tugged and rugged, and what might happen if they rhymed. Try reading them so both sound like one syllable, then again with both sounding like two syllables. (Note: words that are spelled the same but sound different and have different meanings are known as heteronyms.)

Rugged

There once was a man with no hair
Who purchased a wig to go there
He grabbed on it and tugged
Till he thought he looked rugged
Which he did... it made everyone stare.
