Longing

Night stretches out before me,
vast and wide,
like the endless miles that separate
where I am
from where I yearn to be.

How agonizing it is for me to know
that somewhere in that night
is the touch that can soothe
my restless soul.

Yet still it remains,
the darkness
and the distance....
