A poem for the Whispers Of The Soul Contest |
| FIRE AND FLAME To Abraham a promise came Sent forth from the Lord Heirs and land in plenitude Would be his reward "Now you'll bring a heifer here" The Lord's own voice was heard "Prepare it as a sacrifice With goats and rams and birds" To complete the covenant Given in His name He sent among the animals An all consuming flame Moses tended to the flock When the Lord called out From a bush that was unharmed Though on fire throughout The Lord used Moses for His flame To guide the Israelite's hands In tearing off their chains of slaves To find the promised land Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego Were true to Hebrew ways They would not honor idol gods They'd risk the fiery blaze When thrown into the furnace fire By Babylon's mighty king Their faith proved stronger than the flames They suffered not a thing Nebuchadnezzar was that king He saw they did not burn So he bade them come back out He praised the Lord in turn Fire and flame can be a tool To heat and cook and melt But fire and flame may show us how The Lord's right hand is felt |
