Autumn Trees
of Leafgold Redcrisp,
your crumpled tears
fall dead brown
upon the ground
as the cool air
blows upon us
and the hot heels
of Summer's hasty retreat
bids us Chilly Ones
to rally 'round the fire!
Mugs of cozy cocoa
warm our hearts once more,
melting winter-fear
from our frozen thoughts
and giving us courage
to enter the windy maelstrom
on a quest for chestnuts
covered slyly
by that crispy, wrinkled carpet
of weeping, perished Tree-tears
laid down in funereal splendor
upon the Seasons' dark and ever-changing ground.
