Many of served during those years
We practiced and drilled for what may come
While many lived with nuclear fears
They were far more than fears to some.

While the Cold War raged all around
Many ignored our sacrifice
While in detonation others would hide in ground
We would pay the ultimate price.

Combat veterans today do their duty
None is taking that away
In dying there is never beauty
One nuke would have blown us all away.

To all those forgotten heroes of the Carter times
In my mind you are more than mimes.
