One perfect word
to complete the rhyme,
to make the metaphor shine
across the dark parsecs of time.

A thousand stars in the sky
encourage a poet to write
odes to her heart's delight,
but if the wrong word is chosen
it carries the simile astray,
dams the rhythm's flow
and hides the metaphor's glow.
