Elegy to a Lost Love
Love was a red heart shaped box,
Of sweet dark chocolate,
Intended to open my heart's locks,
To the reality of love.

I remember the note you penned,
An immortal Valentine rhyme,
Asking to be more than just a friend,
It spoke to my lonely heart.

I knew that our love was blessed,
I knew that we were soul mates,
You gave me the best,
You had to give that year.

Now on Valentine's day,
I stand beside your grave,
And the only thing I say:
"George, I still love you!"

Line Count: 16
Form: Elegy composed of quatrain stanzas rhyming abcb.
