A laundry list of hopes and dreams
Are wrapped in crimson paper
Money brings riches and
Heartfelt love flows with the gift
Meant to bring wonderful things
Elders hope to pass on
Affluence and blessings.
The younger generation
pass on blessings of longevity
And a show of gratitude
To those of an older age.
It is a way of anchoring the year
And bring good things
out of chaos.
The past does not linger
It falls away
And the future opens up
Bright with promise.
And who would I pass on
These little packets of provision?
I would give my mother one
To give her good health
And long life
To recognize all
she has done for me.
For my aunt and uncle
I would do the same
For their love and guidance
Has made the way
Easier for me.
I would give to my cousins
to bless their lives
With a richness
Both monetary and in love.
I know I am blessed
And passing on that to others
Lightens me
As well as them.
