Lost among the treads along the rye
I sought to lay along the reeds
For such the days were long
The travel was hard to sea
A route as clear as the sky
I winded like a temperate breeze
Not a soul was here along
Far I was to greet the sea
I followed the pickets with my guide
A cottage dwell for rest and ease
A meal of oats to keep me strong
To sleep a dream to envision the sea
I awoke upon the gulls aloft in flight
Near I was to the shores that free
I sturdied my cane to follow its song
A serenade to dance with the sea
Wisps of waves alive with might
Frail in step the thrill of sublimity
At last the threshold to belong
For now my eyes can truly see.
