Retreat

Peace as my mind's chatter becomes numb.
I retreat to where life pauses.
Where work and anxieties succumb
To gentler, quieter causes.

Soft green scenery lies before me.
My eyes so adjusted
To the pavements I constantly see.
Completely encrusted

With people, their lives passing by
So swiftly, not knowing.
Of a place of rest, a time to try
This new way of life, slowing.

Quieting the voices, life's manic pace.
Shut down all contact
With those still running the race.
Wait, let your heart be unpacked.
