Poem-thoughts about mature wishing
A whisper of a wish ascended from earth into the heavens.
It bounced from cloud to cloud looking for an available ear to listen.
An angel relaxing in the mist heard the voice and descended to the speaker.
It was a girl upon a bench, crying and sobbing without any attending.

The angel spread his wings and encompassed the girl in safety.
The girl then started bawling on the shoulder of soft comforting feathers.
And with that the angel heard what was shedding in her tears.
"My wish came true but then something wished for it harder.
Then my wish winked and blinked and disappeared forever!"

The angel probed for a little more to find the conflicting source of interest.
The wish was granted for the girl who had trouble making friends.
It had bounced about til it found another, bringing lonely little ones together.
But in the angels use of skills for a thorough search
Soon found the source of the child's desperate thoughts and hurt.

"Listen little one, another wish indeed made yours blink and vanish.
But it wasn't that it was bigger or better-it was just her wishing something different.
Our wishes can't control what another seeks, no matter how much we desire.
The wish that winked yours into the void was that your friend had another need to acquire."

The girl stepped back and rubbed her reddened eyes.
"So she wished for someone better!"

"You and her shared an aching hope, and that was to find another.
And though your wish was to keep her here, she had to choose some place other."
The child cried "She didn't want to be my friend" and then sobbed even harder.
The angel in need of more attentive ears for guiding her experience into growth
Plucked and handed the child a feather to wipe away any remaining sniffles.

"That magical moment when shared dreams find a physical purchase
Will only keep if both can respect each others' needs and desires.
It is a hard lesson to learn, but fear will cause one's biggest wish to falter.
Your friend's need conflicted with yours because your wish can't control her.
Look around and you will see the truth of this in every part of nature.
A branch who wishes for eternal leaves has no power
Over a leaf wishing for the wind to carry it into new adventures.

"Will my friend return or did our shared wish wink out forever?"

"Sadly, that is not something you can wish to pre-determine."

And with that the angel opened his wings,
Standing with the little lady who now felt three feet taller.
"I hope she chooses to return” the child spoke in a humbled whisper.

The angel smiled and bent to place a warm kiss to dried cheek.
"And that is a wish of respect to encourage your personal hope and desire.
With confidence I leave you with that feather.
A reminder for wishing wishes which only govern personal choices;
And mindful awareness to avoid intent for shaping the wishes of another."

The angel then flew off with a wish of his very own.
It was hope for the one below to embrace mature and hard choices,
When experience forced her into recognizing the desperate nature of wishing
Was inherent to, and rarely lacking intent of, people wanting to shape each other.
