Devotion about faith in God |
Mark 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. Do You Believe? This is a question Jesus asked many times before he healed someone. Let's ask ourselves this question. Do you believe? Yes? Awesome! No? Why not? Not sure? Ok, let's think about this for a minute. How do I know if I truly believe? God is concerned with what is in the heart of man. This is where true belief comes from. Romans 10:9-10 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. How do we know what is in our heart? What kind of things come out of your mouth? Matthew 15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. Do you bless others? Do you curse them? Do you talk bad about people behind their back? Do you pray for others? Do you encourage them or put them down with your words? Do you speak truth or tell lies? Do you talk about the Bible or about all the tv shows you have been watching. What is coming out of your mouth? It is worth making note of. What is your heart pursuing? James 3:2-10 2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. 3 Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. 4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. 7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. After asking ourselves these questions, and we are still not sure we believe, there is one who knows what is in your heart. Ask him to reveal it to you. If you find you have sin in your heart, confess it to God so he can forgive you and help you correct your thoughts and behavior. Mark 9:24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. |
