The Invisible Prompt So, a new challenge faces us this day, the invisible prompt. How crafty of Arakun, knowing we are all signing in expecting... what? Inspiration? Does the prompt inspire a story? Or does it tickle our brains? Or, does it actually just drive us crazy? Quite often. How much time have I spent wracking my brain to think of a storyline around a sentence I would never utter myself! Or three words that have absolutely no connection to one another on this or any other planet in the universe! (My favorite I might add.) However, it drives us crazy in such a rewarding way! I usually scribble the prompt on a scrap of paper and shove it in my pocket as I start my day so I can remind myself whenever I have a moment of free brain time. You know like when I’m doing dishes or vacuuming, driving, or listening to someone who just won’t stop talking. Once the story is finally done, finally typed and cut down from two billion words to the allotted three hundred. Once checked for punctuation, mostly... (some of us are not the best at punctuation) time to add a title, of course that’s always a challenge right there. You want to name the story to entice someone to read it, without giving away the whole story in the title. Going over my old stories I tend to find several with the very same name. Worse, when I’m looking for a specific story that I wrote, I can never find it looking at my titles. Definitely not my strong suit. However, babbling on is definitely right up my alley. I can’t wait to see what Arakun has to say when she realizes she failed to add a prompt! Frankly, she’s just made my whole day! |
