Gossip girls.
Can You Keep a Secret?
WC:226

Abbie headed my way at full speed. “Sharon, did you hear about Cindy?”

Cindy is my best friend; Abbie is my second best friend.

“No, and I don’t want to, Abbie! Please don’t tell me. You know I hate gossip!”

Ignoring my request, Abbie said, “You aren't going to believe this,” and then whispered the gossip into my ear.

Yesterday, Cindy had told me about this situation in confidence …I thought…so I haven’t breathed a word to anyone.

“Isn’t that something?” Abbie waited for my response.

“Who else knows?”

“I think everybody in school knows,” Abbie said, wide-eyed. “Can you believe it?”

Abbie hurried over to a group near the cafeteria entrance to share the gossip.

I was confused. Cindy had asked me to keep it a secret but then told Abbie and at least half of Morton High.

Did Cindy want the gossip spread? Did she hope that I would tell?

What if I told her something in the strictest of confidence? Would she whisper it into Abbie’s ear?

I like both girls, and we have been friends since fourth grade, but I must rethink these friendships...difficult as that is.

If I can’t trust them with my deepest, darkest secrets, our seven years of friendship are probably at an end.

What was the secret?

You’ll have to ask someone else.
