Some things just aren’t allowed..

Forbidden

They say good things are worth waiting for
But you’re bound to take your toll
Because this burning and this yearning
Has gotten way out of control.

I’ve extinguished my last cigarette
And consumed yet another bottle
Still every time I think of you
My heart races like a throttle.

During waking hours I anticipate
An end to this charade
Shadow dancers in gilded masks
Would-be lovers in a masquerade.

So don’t tell me what you think I need
Just give me what I want
Because you linger in my darkness
Like a ghost who has to haunt.

I’ve embarked upon a course
From which I may not be forgiven
But I’d sell my soul to touch you
For just one taste of the forbidden.
