Lessons in Love “Susan, are you leaving?” Ted said. “I just got here.” “Oh, I’ve been so busy. I want the party to be great.” “So which is it? Did you miss me? Or, not even notice I hadn’t arrived...” “Sweetheart! I knew, of course! I just forgot for a moment. Where are those things I asked you to get at the store?” “What things?” “You forgot?! Everybody will be arriving in less than an hour. How could you forget!” “Maybe because you never asked me?...” Just then Janice came in the door with two bags of groceries. “Here you go Hun. I got everything on your list,” she dropped them on the table. “Oh, hello Susan... I wasn’t expecting you early...” she said, then went into the other room to put her coat down. Susan turned to Ted, “You thought you sent me to the store when you really sent Janice? Do you want to explain this?” “Ha, ha!” he sputtered, “Now I remember! I needed more things, then Janice showed up, and you weren’t here yet, so I asked her to go get them.” “You were expecting Susan early?” Janice said, standing in the doorway. “Of course he was expecting me, I’m his girlfriend.” “I thought I was his girlfriend.” The girls looked at each other, with daggers. Then at the same moment, they both turned their daggers on Ted. Ted sputtered, “Ah...” both girls stormed out. Suddenly there was a knock on the door, ‘Someone early! Crap,’ Ted thought. When he opened the door there was Alice. “Sorry I’m early, I got a ride.” Ted looked at Alice, smiled and said, “I’m so glad, I’ve been thinking about you all day...” Alice smiled back. Unbeknownst to them both, Alice was eventually going to break his heart. Something he sorely needed. |
